Author Donna M. Zandunajsky pens a very important novella about the effects of bullying in all its forms. Based on a true story and written in first person from two different point of views and with sensitivity to the teenage spirit, this book is sure to grab your heart.

Mick Connors is thirteen years old. His best and only friend in the whole world just committed suicide- by shooting himself in the head with his father’s gun.

What follows is Mick’s own battle with bullying and how he feels responsible for his friend’s death. He even contemplates killing himself as well. Was there something he could have said to make his friend Ray change his mind? What could he have done? Would Ray have shot himself anyway? Even with proper help?

My Reaction:
HELP ME! makes us feel those angst-y, sorrow filled, yet hopeful moments between Mick and his crush, Layla Manning.

But why did Ray Mullion shoot himself and what could Mick have done?

In the form of prose, texts, letters, and Snap/Chat conversations we get a glimpse into a world we hear about but do we really know what is going on?

I highly recommend this novella( as of this writing it is free from the author).

If you know a parent, teen, or even an educator who is at a loss for words on how to deal with a teen that cuts or wants to die, please talk about this book and pass it along.

One thing I thought I understood was cutting. When a person cuts, they are not trying to die- they want to relieve themselves of the pain inside.
